Guest rooms and presidential suites of the Mangrove Tree Hotel in Haitang Bay, Hainan.

• Presidential suites: at the corners of the building a structural beam crosses a curved, recessed ceiling. Milan dressed it in sculpted metal panels, electroplated in several colours and lit from behind, so that the beam disappears behind ribbons that seem to flutter in water or wind.

• Furniture: every room has the folding screen like a falling waterfall, aluminium frames holding acrylic or resin panels, and a nightstand whose acrylic leg lights up as a night light; more under Furniture concepts.
